“BLOOM”

In the summer of 2019, during my travels painting in the countrysides of Finland and Switzerland, the native wild flora of these regions fascinated me as I painted the blooming flowers in their natural environs. In the spring of 2020, with the outbreak of the coronavirus and unexpected lockdown in India, I observed that the Gulmohar and the Indian laburnum trees blooming with rich blossoms more than they usually do. With hardly any human presence, its branches stooped so low, I could almost touch the flowers, a rare sight especially in Mumbai where such magnificent trees once in abundance are now rare. The little girls in my paintings share a very close and personal bond with these blooming trees and just like the trees, they too are blooming. As these little girls grow up, their close bond and their conversations with the trees has remained the same. My current theme, “Bloom” deals with the very fact that if we as adults can have a childlike innocence and share the responsibility to preserve nature and live in harmony with it, our planet will be a more beautiful place.
