Gallerie Ganesha@ IAF2020

30x30

30 years 30 artists

Gallerie Ganesha completes 30 years this year in October. To celebrate our journey, we would like to exhibit works by significant artists from our repertoire, whom we have exhibited and promoted over the years.

The exhibition touches upon the various phases and faces of Indian Art, through time and across space, providing a glimpse of the movements and styles that have been prevalent in Indian art.

Although the modern art movement in India is comparatively very recent, we have always had a rich heritage and tradition in Art. Paintings from the Indian miniature series dating back to the 16th century or the even older tribal and folk art have inspired many an artist in recent times. In spite of the colonial influence, almost subjugation, of Indian art, The Bengal School kept alive the Indian legend. While the Indian artists welcomed the European technique and style, the soul of Indian art remained connected to their traditional heritage. To quote the reputed art critic and author, Krishna Chaitanya, “While in order to be art, aesthetic and formal criteria have to be fulfilled, in order to be great art, some alliance to great human ends has to be forged. My evaluation... has revealed modern Indian art to be as spiritual as the traditional...”

Our exhibition attempts to highlight the fact that the essence of all things Indian, including art, is in the traditional and its aesthetic, by virtue of its deep rooted ancient heritage, is linked to the spiritual.

Some of the sections of Indian art we will be touching are, the Folk and Tribal, the Bengal School, the Modernists, the Contemporary Masters, and The Young Contemporary Artists.
