“Abstraction allows man to see with his mind what he cannot see physically with his eyes.”
- Arshile Gorky
Sublimation literally means dissolution of the apparent. Abstract art is all about doing away with form as it appears and distilling, instead, the essence. Post impressionism era saw artists focussing less on realism and more on abstract expression, using colour, line and texture. In India, there were artists who explored the Tantric and Meditative Imagery also, like Dipak Banerjee, Bimal Dasgupta and others. ‘Sublimated Forms’ showcases works by senior as well as bright upcoming Indian artists working in the abstract tradition. This is the last show in a series of three.
